Leadership Roles

In what specific ways can an individual influence an organization through the quality of his or her management and leadership skills?

New leadership roles require new leadership skills. These skills can only be developed, in my
judgment, through a lifelong commitment. It is not enough for one or two individuals to
develop these skills. They must be distributed widely throughout the organization (Mintzberg, et al., pg. 63).

Effective management can be carried out by acquiring three important leadership skills, attitude management, procedure management and having the ability to set goals. Having a good attitude is imperative and infectious. A manager that keeps a good attitude will motivate the team, whereas, a manager with bad attitude will discourage the team. Procedure Management is important for a team in order to have a consistent way of approaching projects. Proper procedures can keep a team organized and efficient. Goal Setting is imperative for managers. Everyone on the team needs to know what the outcome of a project should look like. A manager that sets strong goals for their team and allows them to understand their role in the outcome can expect powerful results.
